Michael & Stephanie // April 2017

Couples always ask me what the best time of year to get married at Milagro is and I always say April or October. It's not too hot or too cold, but just right. Especially in San Diego since we are pretty spoiled with our weather. After scrolling through this wedding I have no doubt you will agree with me!

michael & Stephanie, april 2017

From the day they booked, we knew Michael and Stephanie would be one of our favorite couples to work with. They are so kind and within the first few minutes of meeting them you can tell how in love they are. Their wedding day was perfect from beginning to end and we are OBSESSED with their photos taken by the incredible Tarah Sweeney. Also, you can never go wrong with a donut bar!

How they met: "It all started with a gift. Stephanie walked into a store, looking to buy a gift for her sister, clueless to the fact that she was walking out with a husband. There was no choice in the matter, Michael had to assist this beautiful blue-eyed customer who walked into his store, needing help with this gift. A few days later, Stephanie was in the store again needing to exchange the gift she had purchased for her indecisive sister. ;)"

"Little did they know, this first exchange, would lead to many more over the next two years - phone issues, computer problems, device repairs etc. But in between these walk-ins and fix-it appointments, it gave the two, space and time to find out a little more about each other - like how Michael became so good at fixing electronics, or how Stephanie kept needing her electronics fixed! ;) Many texts and phone calls disguised as technical support, later lead to even more laughs, sparks, stories, smiles and connections created. These encounters were the first steps in delicately paving the road towards their captivating and extraordinary partnership in life together."

"Though over the years, there were some missed chances when plans didn't quite fall into place, or timing wasn't exactly in their favor, to meet outside of the store to talk about each other instead of technical questions and advice. Finally, there came a day in mid July when Stephanie asked Michael out for drinks! He was all in! Yet as he stepped into the bar that night, he had no idea that he was walking out with a wife, which turned out to be the real gift that she was looking for all along."

The proposal: "While walking on the beach hand in hand, admiring the glowing Carlsbad sunset, Michael stopped mid sentence, and turned to Stephanie so they were looking eye to eye. He pulled her closer, held both of her hands close to his heart and began recalling how it felt to have first met, the years they had spent getting to know one another, and all the adventures that had brought them to that very spot, right there on the beach that day. Carefully holding Stephanie's purse on his shoulder, as not to drop it, Michael slowly knelt down to one knee and pulled a beautiful box out of his pocket."

"Just as if he were reading the words straight from his heart, Michael loving asked Stephanie if she would agree to continue their life, love and friendship together, by officially becoming "Mrs. Whittaker". With a beaming smile and squeals of high pitched excitement, Stephanie undeniably said "YES!" (and also reminded Michael that the ring is supposed to go on her finger once he asks)."

"Within seconds, what was an incognito photographer (thanks, Kent) popped out from behind a large rock on the beach and snapped a picture of those perfect precious memories. Just as Stephanie had a moment to realize what was actually happening, she heard faint cheering and joyous applause from up above them on the cliff. Prior to that day, Michael had contacted Stephanie's family, as well as his own, to join in on the surprise celebration!"

On their wedding day: "From beginning to end our wedding day was pure bliss! We could not have picked a more perfect venue for our special day. Milagro is truly a thing of beauty and everyone there was beyond helpful to ensure our day went smoothly! We didn't have a care in the world on our wedding day because every detail was taken care of and completely covered for us. The staff made sure that our only focus was on each other and taking in each moment. Milagro has so many areas for pictures with stunning backdrops that make you feel like you are transported to a hidden gem that was placed on this earth just for you to enjoy it at that very moment. We received and continue to receive so many compliments from friends and family that attended our wedding that share how it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to and how amazing the venue was - we whole heartedly agree with them!"

Tyler & Amanda // March 2017

This cold, San Diego weather has us reminiscing on Tyler and Amanda's wedding from March of last year. Take a look!

amanda & Tyler, march 2017

This time last year, we were a little worried the rain would challenge us on their wedding day, but the sunshine came out and gave them a beautiful day to celebrate. With hints of blue and pink, their simple decor perfectly represented them as a couple - simply in love! They said "I do" underneath our arch tree decorated with hanging pink linen then made their way to the reception area and danced the night away.

From the bride:
Tyler and I met through mutual friends. A few months later Tyler asked me on our first date to Buca Di Beppo and we fell in love almost immediately. We have been together 2 years now. Six months after our first date we bought a home together, a month after that we were engaged, and eight months after that we were married. Although you could consider our beginning a whirlwind romance, we had never been more sure about anything in our lives. It seems cliche but, I guess, when you know you know.

Tyler proposed to me 4th of July weekend at Shaver Lake while we were vacationing at his family cabin. One night Tyler took me on a walk to Indian Rock (which is a huge rock on a hillside in a clearing of trees) where his family visits on every trip to the cabin. What seemed like simply sharing a family tradition turned into the best night of my life. Tyler and I sat staring at millions of beautiful stars when he suddenly got down on one knee and began a very sweet speech. Of course I immediately said, “yes!”. To me our proposal was so perfect, it was beyond romantic and having it just be between Tyler and I made it so personal and special.

Our wedding day was everything we could have asked for any more. Having a March wedding, we were nervous that we would end up with rain, but then when we saw pictures from weddings held in the wine cave we almost didn’t mind the idea of a rainy wedding day. Luckily for us we had the most gorgeous weather for our wedding day.  During the day of our wedding we had so much help from our friends, family, and not to mention the amazing Milagro team! We truly wanted a very romantic and intimate wedding (with a food truck!) and that is exactly what we got. Everything was set up exactly how we pictured it for the ceremony and reception and from the moment the ceremony started everything went according to plan. Our food from Mangia Mangia was deee-licous! Our DJ nailed our exact vibe for music. And our pictures on the hills of the vineyard as the sun was setting turned out gorgeous. I could go on and on but our wedding really was everything we wanted and more.

Wedding Open House 2018

We held our second annual Open House for potential couples as well as our booked couples to visit our wedding venue. They had a chance to meet with some of our favorite vendors, taste food and desserts, view table setups, and more! We were nervous because of the rainy day prior to Open House, but the sun came out and made for the perfect day for everyone to enjoy. We want to thank everyone who was able to attend as well as all of the incredible vendors who took time out of their busy schedules to spend the day with us. If you were unable to make it, we hope you enjoy the photos and hopefully we will see you next year!

Thank you again to all of the amazing vendors who helped make this happen! We appreciate all of you and are so grateful to do business with you. Also a huge thank you to Red Trolley Studio for taking time to capture these photos. We hope all of the guests had a wonderful time and went home with lots of ideas. We can't wait to plan the next one!

Jeff & Paige // February 2017

Off-peak season weddings are not as popular as those summer weddings (hence the name). However, if you are interested in what a February wedding at Milagro looks like, you've come to the right place!

Jeff & Paige, February 2017

This particular wedding was a little different than most of our other weddings due to the dreaded "R" word. You guessed it, rain! Luckily, Paige and Jeff went with the flow (literally) and made the best of their big day. They decided to forego a tent at the ceremony site and instead hold their ceremony inside the Wine Cave. Fortunately their guest count was just the right size! With the patio covered by a reception tent, guests were still able to enjoy a little bit of the outdoors before moving back into the Wine Cave for a dance party. With Disney inspiration, Paige and Jeff's wedding was stunning despite the weather.

Fun fact: The necklace Paige wore on the day of her wedding lists the coordinates of the winery!

'

From the bride: "Jeff lived next door to my family and we were friends for years before we ever even started dating. Lots of Game nights and family dinners :) We have been together for 7 years now."

About their proposal: "Jeff and I took a vacation with family to Maui, HI. I booked a photo shoot for the two of us since I had never had professional portraits of us before. He proposed at Sunset for the photographer to capture it :)"

"We love to travel together and go camping. That is one of the reasons we loved Milagro, we love being in the mountains!"

About their wedding day: "It was a beautiful rainy February day at Milagro Winery. The ceremony was held in the Wine Cave, which gave the ceremony an intimate and romantic setting (I believe this was the first time Milagro had a ceremony in there??) Inspired by our love for the outdoors, our day was filled with lanterns, touches of wood decorations, and greenery."

Valentine's Day: Date Night at Home

For those who celebrate Valentine's Day, it offers a full 24 hours to overload your significant other with affection, treats, and gifts. Who doesn't want to be showered in love? For the more laid-back couple who prefer coming home after a long day of work and relaxing over a nice meal, this post is for you! A romantic night in eating dinner by the candelight and having a good old-fashioned conversation with your S.O. is just what the doctor ordered (in my opinion of course!) If you need a little help getting started you've come to the right place.

dinner pairing ideas

First, you will need to plan a meal. I have a meat option as well as a vegetarian option that will pair perfectly with a bottle of Milagro wine. Choose a recipe, add these ingredients to your shopping list, and make sure you have a bottle of wine handy!

Slow-cooker red wine beef stew

We can all agree that red wine makes everything better. This recipe can serve 8, so you can enjoy some with your honey after Valentine's Day as well.

What you'll need:

(2) cups beef stock
(3) tbsp. all-purpose flour
(2) tsp. Dijon mustard
(1) lb. carrots, cut into 2-inch pieces
1 (8-ounce) package cremini mushrooms, halved if large
(1) large red onion, cut into wedges
(2) large celery ribs, cut into 2-inch pieces
(4) cloves garlic, chopped
(6) sprigs thyme
(1) tbsp. canola oil
(3) lb. pot roast, trimmed and cut into 4 pieces
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
(1/4) cup tomato paste
(1) cup dry red wine - Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Ballena Rojo anyone?
(1) tbsp. unsalted butter
Chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, for serving

Once you've done your shopping you'll need 20 minutes to prep before letting it cook for 7-8 hours. Prepare in the morning before work and come home to a meal waiting to be served!

Directions:

  1. Whisk together stock, flour, and mustard in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add carrots, mushrooms, onion, celery, garlic, and thyme; stir to combine.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper. Cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove to slow cooker. Add tomato paste to skillet and cook, stirring, 1 minute. Add wine and cook, scraping up browned bits, 30 seconds; add to slow cooker.

  3. Cover and cook until beef is tender, on low heat 7 to 8 hours or high for 5 to 6 hours.

  4. Discard thyme. Remove beef and shred with 2 forks; return to cooker. Stir in butter.

  5. Serve topped with parsley.

bucatini with winter pesto & sweet potatoes

For all of my fellow vegetarians, this recipe is sure to make it's way into your weekly dinner rotation. Pair it with a glass of Milagro Rose or Chardonnay.

What you'll need:

(1) large sweet potato, peeled and cubed
(1) medium red onion, cut into wedges
(1/3) cup plus 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
(4) cups torn kale, collards, or mustard greens
(1/2) cups fresh flat-leaf parsley
(2) oz. grated Parmesan cheese (about 1/2 cup), plus more for serving
(1) clove garlic
(2) tsp. lemon zest, plus 1.5 tablespoons lemon juice
(12) oz. bucatini
toasted pine nuts, for serving

With preparation time about 20 minutes and cook time about 20 minutes, this dish will be easily prepared in no time!

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Toss together potato, onion, and 2 tablespoons oil on a rimmed baking sheet. Season with salt and pepper. Bake, stirring once, until potato and onion are tender, 24 to 26 minutes
  2. Meanwhile, place kale and parsley in a food processor. Pulse until chopped, 4 to 5 times. Add Parmesan, garlic, lemon zest, and juice. Pulse, scraping down the sides as needed, until finely chopped, 10 to 12 times. With the machine running, slowly add remaining 1/3 cup oil through the feed tube. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook pasta according to package directions, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water before draining. Toss pasta with roasted vegetables, pesto, and pasta water.

  4. Serve topped with Parmesan and pine nuts.

date night at home

Now what will you do since you've cooked, talked through a meal, and had a couple glasses of wine? After you agree to put away the cell phones and give each other undivided attention, I have a few ideas for you to spend a night at home together.

  1. Netflix: Choose a classic you both love or a film neither of you have ever seen. Getting tired of watching movies? Start a new series and make a pact to not watch it without each other.
  2. Boardgames: Scrabble, Jenga, Sorry... the choices are endless. Plus, some good old-fashioned competition is always fun.
  3. 21 Questions: Even if you're married, there may be things you still don't know about each other. Ask each other easy questions - "What's something silly you're afraid of? Have you ever broken any bones? If you could choose any career what would you choose?" Then you can ask each other harder questions - "What are you most grateful for in life? Is there something that you've dreamed of doing for a long time?...Why haven't you done it? If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone...Why haven't you told them yet?
  4. Eat More: After you've settled from dinner, get ready to fill your belly even more with dessert. Chocolate fondue, chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry shortcake, ice cream sundae, girl scout cookies...Hungry yet?

I hope your mind is swirling with ideas now. Skip the busy, expensive restaurants and stay at home to spend quality time together.

Happy Valentine's Day from ours to you and yours.

Gabe & Myrranda // January 2017

Welcome to the first blog of 2018! I am looking forward to sharing more content with you this year. I have a fantastic lineup including a few of our favorite weddings of 2017.

GABE AND MYRRANDA, JANUARY 2017

To begin, I have Gabe and Myrranda's beautiful wedding from January 2017. I have been DYING to blog their wedding since then and you will see why shortly. Their photos from Shuttergram Portraits are unreal! The overcast day provided the perfect backdrop for this stunning couple and their romantic wedding.

From the bride: "We met through our nutrition company while I was working at mine and my parents' nutrition club. We started hanging out a few months later, and even though I turned him down multiple times when he asked me to be his girlfriend, he didn’t give up. It took a few more months until I finally said yes."

"Every year we go to my grandparents' house in Escalante, UT for Pioneer days in July. The last night, the town does fireworks and my family sits in the backyard to watch. Gabe and I were cuddled up on a lawn chair, and after the fireworks everyone else went inside. He looked down at me and asked me if I would marry him. I of course said yes thinking that we were just talking about it like we’d done before. As we kissed, he slid the ring onto my finger."

"Our wedding day was, by far, so much more than I could’ve ever dreamed! I was so nervous all morning, it was hard to focus and get ready. Even while I was walking with my dad, I think I just kept saying how nervous I was. As soon as I saw Gabe standing at the end of the isle, it all went away. After the ceremony, it felt like the whole day went by so fast! One of my favorite memories is when we were cutting our cake, I had made Gabe promise to not shove cake in my face, but it was a little boring, so got a small dab of frosting on my finger and smeared in on his cheek. Didn’t really have plan after that, so panicked and just ran, but he definitely got me back. Our reception was a blast , I didn’t want it to end. We’ve had people all year still talk to us about how much fun they had at our wedding and how great everything was! Seriously don’t think I could’ve imagined a more perfect day!"

Kevin & Cassie // December 2016

Happy holidays! Thank you so much for following along with each blog post this year. We have a lot in store for you next year and we are very excited to continue sharing our beautiful weddings with you.

Kevin and Cassie's wedding is the perfect blend of a bohemian and eclectic style from the gemstone named tables to the flower-crown-wearing skull (his name is Brain!). This December day made for the perfect backdrop for their beautiful wedding. Their first look on our lake dock was to DIE for, to say the least. Kevin and Cassie's family and closest friends watched as they tied the knot underneath our Big Tree then danced the night away beneath the market lights. It was the perfect ending to our 2016 season and is an equally perfect way to tie up the end of 2017.

Tyler & Sirena // November 2016

Sirena and Tyler's nuptials took place on a sunny November afternoon below the Arch Tree. During their ceremony, they poured different sands together to symbolize the blending of their lives into one. With touches of greenery and beautiful calligraphy, their guests enjoyed their simple, rustic reception below the market lights and danced the night away.

Erika & David // October 2016

From the magnificent, fall-inspired floral arrangements created by Layered Vintage to the hand-lettered seating chart made by the bride, this wedding evokes all the romanctic feelings. The inclusion of their law enforcement love story into their wedding is beyond dreamy. Captured by Analisa Joy, Erika and David's wedding day is sure to have you in awe.

"David and I met in October of 2014 and began dating in January 2015 (Just shy of three years together now). We had a fairly quick courtship but David told me on our second date he was going to marry me one day. I remember thinking to myself, "Yea, you're probably right."

"David and I met in the police academy. David actually first noticed me at our orientation the week prior. We were both recruits with the same department so we hung out in the same group and sat together in class and at lunch. We started harmlessly flirting in class, hiding each other's pens, name tags and lint rollers as we left for our 10 minute breaks. We were also partners in our Defensive Tactics class, wrestling with each other four hours a weeks for six months. I gave him a bloody nose one day!"

"Oh David's proposal... As soon as David had the ring he couldn't wait to give it to me. My mom says he was at a loss on where to do it. They were discussing places that were meaningful to our relationship when he landed on where we met... the Academy."

"David says I had no idea, but I knew the minute he exited the freeway. There was no other reason to take that exit then to go to the academy. David took both my hands in his and told me this is where it all began and where he fell in love with me. He said I'm his best friend and he wants to spend forever with me. He dropped to one knee and with a big smile said, "Erika will you marry me?" Hugs, Kisses, tears and then he pulled out his phone and started texting... our families were up the road and were there to congratulate us after."

"Our wedding day was all my little girl and big girl wedding dreams come true. I remember feeling more at ease than I thought possible for such a day. But I think when everything feels so right, there is nothing to be nervous about. I still get compliments to this day about how much people truly enjoyed our wedding. They say it was the best wedding food they have had and it was such a beautiful venue. David and I felt so loved as our friends and family swarmed our sweetheart table to say hello and give us their blessings. The night was full of long overdue reunions and conversations with friends and family. David stayed by my side the entire night as we interacted with the people closest to us. It was the perfect start to a lifetime with my best friend."
